The BBC Press Office is on the frontline, defending and promoting the BBC’s reputation to media across the globe, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year.
As one of three Media Relations Managers reporting to the Chief Press Officer, you will take charge of a busy press desk on a rota basis, answering questions on all aspects of the corporation. It could be an output issue, a policy decision or a major incident anywhere in the world. Either way, you’ll work with producers, executives and publicity colleagues to oversee communications to the media, prepare articles, brief senior management and co-ordinate communications activity.
You’ll have worked at the sharp-end of media relations, probably within a high profile public or commercial organisation. The post involves leading a team of press officers, so strong people management skills are essential.
You will bring to the role experience of proactive and reactive media relations and crisis management, together with strong media contacts.
Wide knowledge of, and demonstrable interest in, the BBC and how it operates (with understanding of the issues facing the BBC in the Digital Age), together with in depth knowledge of key issues facing broadcasting is vital.
