Research Assistant to work in the Global Maize Program


We are seeking for a dynamic, experienced and resourceful Research Assistant to work in the Global Maize Program. The successful candidate will work in closely with the breeder to ensure timeliness and quality in research activities of the micronutrient biofortification (HarvestPlus) and the Subtropical Maize Breeding Programs.
Position will be based at CIMMYT’s Main Campus (located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, Mexico). The main responsibilities of this position will be:
  • Oversee winter and summer nurseries and ensure that pollinations are completed according to expectations.
  • Process of seed for planting, laboratory analyses and inventory.
  • Plant, maintain and collect data for yield trials.
  • Perform statistical analyses data from yield trials.
  • Ensure that seed shipments to national and international partners are made in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the hiring and supervision of temporary employees when required.
We are seeking candidates with the following qualification, skills and attitudes:
  • BA/BS in Agronomy. Master’s degree in Agronomy or plant breeding will be an advantage.
  • At least one year of experience in work related to crop improvement.
  • Knowledge of experimental designs and statistical analysis of agronomic data.
  • Working knowledge of English.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to effectively work with minimum supervision.
  • Good interpersonal skills, strong team spirit, integrity, honesty and self-motivation.
