SchoolHarvard School of Public Health
Department/AreaNutrition
Position Description
The Department of Nutrition in the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) seeks qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. The fellow will work with Dr. Majken K. Jensen to primarily carry out epidemiological investigations of the role of novel lipoprotein subclassifications in diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The goal of this research is to investigate if subtypes of lipoproteins (HDL and LDL) with opposing associations with cardiometabolic diseases can be identified on the basis of surface proteins. These investigations are conducted in the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study, the Nurses’ Health Study, the Danish EPIC cohort study (Diet, Cancer and Health), and the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis. Other investigations relate to other biomarkers or lifestyle factors, as well as candidate gene, genome-wide, gene-environment interaction studies. Various study designs are used including case-control, prospective and register-based studies. This fellowship provides a close interaction with the biostatistical department on statistical modeling in terms of data fit, risk prediction, optimal combination of different sets of metabolic biomarkers. Primary responsibilities include preparation of study protocols, statistical analyses, preparation of manuscripts, and conference presentations. The postdoc will also be expected to participate in grant preparations and student mentorship. Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and participate productively as a team player. The research group of Dr. Jensen is small but with strong collaborations with other researchers within and outside of the department. Postdocs are encouraged to join the associated group meetings and journal clubs of interest in the area.
