Rig Superintendent


Due to company growth, Ocean Rig have an opportunity for an experienced Rig Superintendent.  We currently have six  vessels - two semi submersibles and four ultra deepwater drillships operating worldwide in various locations.  There are three further ultra deepwater drillships under construction in Korea which will be operational in June, October and November 2013 respectively.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing company and work on a new build ultra deepwater drillship.  Reporting to the Offshore Installation Manager (OIM), the Rig Superintendent plays an integral part in managing the health, safety and welfare of all personnel onboard, as well as the efficient operation of the offshore installation.  The Rig Superintendent's main responsiblities include:
Main Responsibilities:
  • Overall responsibility for the effective and safe operation of the vessel, ensuring that all operations are carried out in accordance with safety regulations and relevant operational procedures
  • To provide effective leadership and ensure clear communication for all direct reports
  • Maintain a safe environment for all vessel employees and visitors, ensuring on-going development and training of employees and that equipment is maintained to a high standard, in line with Ocean Rig procedure
  • Be familiar with the drilling unit and its equipment, systems, manuals and procedures
  • Responsible for ensuring that all operation is carried out in accordance with the fixed program and that the operation is executed in a safe and proper manner
  • Ensure that necessary spares, consumables and equipment for the drilling rig are available onboard at the correct (required) levels
  • Maintain a high housekeeping standard on the drilling rig

Desired Skills & Experience

Required Experience:
Applicants must have previous experience working in a similar position and level of responsibility. During your career you will have gained in-depth technical training onboard a Semi Submersible or Drillship, this will include a strong understanding of systems, equipment and the importance of correct maintenance.
The Rig Superintendent needs minimum 2 years practise as Toolpusher or Technical Section Leader.  They should further more have technical training on rig, rig systems and equipment or through their work demonstrates understanding the importance of correct maintenance.
You will have strong communication and people management skills, as well as a proven track record for ensuring the safety for all offshore employees.
As a global organization and to ensure a safe working environment, it is essential that all applicants have a strong level of English, both written and oral.

Required Qualifications and Certificates: All certificates must be current and internationally recognized.
  • Well Control Certificate - Subsea Supervisor Level
  • Valid Offshore Survival Course, OPITO or equivalent
  • Valid Offshore Health/Medical Certificate
