Subsea Section Leader


The Subsea Section Leader reports to the Rig Superintendent.
Key responsibilities
  • Familiarise themself with all sub sea and sub sea related equipment.
  • Operate and maintain the sub sea and sub sea related equipment, including riser tensioners in accordance with all applicable OEM and Ocean Rig operating and maintenance procedures
  • Shall, upon request, attend training courses arranged by the manufacturer of the BOP and BOP control equipment or any other equipment relevant to the subsea dept, to familiarise themself with the maintenance and operation of the said equipment
  • Ensure that the Subsea Dept at all times has the necessary supplies and spare parts for operation and maintenance of all the subsea related equipment on board in accordance with Ocean Rig’s inventory policy
  • Ensure that all maintenance records are properly prepared, filed and kept
  • Maintain the filing system onboard for certificates, drawings and manuals
  • Make themselves fully familiar and with all operating procedures / instructions for all equipment that falls under the responsibility of the subsea dept, and this will include reviewing the OEM manuals and procedures on a regular basis
  • Responsible for all inputs and changes to the maintenance system for the subsea related equipment
  • When modifications are made to equipment or system, responsible for ensuring all drawings and BOM that are affected have been updated, by redlining drawing and BOM, and after review and approving said changes, will then submit them to the onshore management  for final review and approval, then the redline drawings and BOM will to be submitted by onshore management to OEM, for updating of OEM manuals
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness throughout his area of responsibility
  • Carry out the BOP tests and drills in accordance with authorities, operating company's, manufacturer's and Ocean Rig's requirements
  • Ensure that all reporting routines are followed and that all sub sea related paperwork are carried out, such as: daily sub sea engineer log, maintenance records, BOP test sheets, Ton cycles on tensioner wires, updating of service and instructions manuals, instructing procedures etc. This includes ensuring all relevant certificates required for class / regulatory issues are up to date and accessible
  • Participate in safety meetings and safety drills held onboard
  • Carry out the installation/dismantling of the sub sea blow out prevention equipment and the control system for the same
  • Ensure subordinates are fully trained and are fully familiar with all aspects of the job, including  safety polices and will hold the necessary training courses for their subordinates
Qualifications
  • The Subsea Section Leader should have held a Subsea supervisory position as Subsea discipline and should have either a 2-year Technical College or a City and Guilds trade certificate in mechanical, electrical or equivalent as well as relevant practical or theoretical training on the relevant equipment
  • While a recognised apprenticeship or college training is preferred, individual circumstances can be considered if applicant has a career background which compensates. This would be reviewed and accepted  by subsea manager and personel manager
  • Experience with Cameron TL and Shaffer NXT equipment is an advantage
  • They shall have a valid health certificate
  • They must have good knowledge of the English language, both oral and written
