Computational Scientist

Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre

The CCDC is a non-profit research institute, dedicated to the advancement and promotion of the science of chemistry and crystallography for the public benefit. To fulfil this aim we have teamed up with Pfizer to establish the Pfizer-CCDC Solid Form Design Centre, an exciting development of the Pfizer Institute for Pharmaceutical Materials Science. The successful applicant will join a growing team at the CCDC in Cambridge, developing and applying crystal structure prediction techniques to drug development compounds.
Working closely with Pfizer-based scientists, Crystal Structure Prediction (CSP) analyses will be conducted on live drug candidates and the results used to inform decisions concerning the stability and potential polymorphism of those molecules. The candidate will also be expected to participate in the research activities of the Materials Science team at CCDC. This may include providing computationally derived results to help validate and advance our current tools, as well as working to drive forward CSP methodologies.
Applicants will be expected to have knowledge of the CSD and associated software, plus a strong understanding of computational structural chemistry. A PhD, or equivalent experience, in the field of Crystal Structure Prediction or solid state modelling is vital. In order to develop the methodologies, familiarity with scripting languages would be beneficial. A collaborative role such as this will require good presentation skills, both written and oral, as well as a proven ability to deliver a programme of work on time.
The CCDC is an independent organisation that compiles the Cambridge Structural Database and develops software applications in structural chemistry and molecular modelling. Our products are distributed worldwide to both academic and industrial users. We offer competitive salaries and a friendly working environment.
