Lipid Dynamic and Regulation linked theme – Cambridge Initiative
HNR conducts nutrition research and surveillance to improve the health of the population with a focus on obesity and metabolic risk, musculoskeletal health, intestinal health and nutritional inequalities.
This role have been created after the funding of the Cambridge Initiative, a cross MRC and University of Cambridge Initiative, into expanding research into type II diabetes and obesity research. Our new Lipid Dynamics and Regulation programme sits between the groups of Lipid Profiling and Signalling and Physiological Modelling of Metabolic Risk in the department of Integrated Metabolism and Pathways.

This vacancy has arisen within Bioinformatics to develop and apply new data mining tools for the biomarker discovery, exploiting the mass spectral information. They will be involved in the design of experiments and collaborate with the analytical chemistry scientist on strategies in data acquisition. Specific tools need to be developed for data normalisation and data mining tools need to be tailored to either unbiased lipid profiling or targeted analysis of specific lipids. You will be responsible for the discovery of biomarkers and the design of validation experiments. You will also be responsible for the development of a database of spectral data of lipids and should be able to communicate with different partners and collaborators. PhD level experienced with mass spectrometry based data mining, lipidomics/metabolomics and mass spectra databases.

Starting salary for this position is dependent on qualifications and experience and will be offered on an open ended contract.
