THE PEACENEXUS FOUNDATION
PeaceNexus (www.peacenexus.org) is an operational and grant-making foundation based in Switzerland. Its core mission is to provide peacebuilding actors – multilateral organisations, governments, non-profit organisations and businesses – with expertise and advice to make the best use of their peacebuilding potential. Its tailored support services are complemented by a grant mechanism that supports innovative ideas and organisational development for agents of change.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
  1. Further develop and implement programme strategy The Business and Peace Programme provides expertise to actors working to generate inclusive private sector development and responsible natural resource management in conflict-affected areas. The programme manager will be responsible for further developing and implementing the 2014-15 programme strategy, including project development in line with strategic objectives.
  2. Project management and support Manage selected on-going and new projects within the programme, including budgeting, selection of consultant teams, drafting Terms of Reference, accompanying project implementation, and reporting to the governing board. Provide feedback and inputs into other PeaceNexus projects, including in other programme areas, upon request.
  3. Research and communications Strengthen organisational knowledge in priority programme areas including identifying and managing research projects to support programme and project objectives. Build networks with relevant experts and organisations to identify consultants that we could work with and new project opportunities. Draft internal reports and external communications, including website updates.
CORE COMPETENCES REQUIRED:
  • Knowledge of peacebuilding and understanding of conflict An understanding of how business operations in complex environments have the potential to do harm or build peace depending on how they are managed. Education/training in political economy or conflict analysis and work experience in conflict-affected environments.
  • Relevant business knowledge and experience Knowledge of the extractive sector and operations and/or of private sector development initiatives, through relevant academic study (Master’s degree). Substantial (minimum of 10 years) work experience, ideally with five years working for or with the private sector in a conflict-affected or fragile country.
  • Project management A strong track record in project management, ideally also in relation to corporate social responsibility, risk management and mitigation, and/or multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Communications Strong inter-personal and written and spoken communication skills in English. Knowledge of Arabic, Burmese, French, Spanish or Chinese would be an asset.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience in private sector development Work experience and/or study related governmental policies and programmes related to private sector development in post-conflict contexts.
  • Alternative dispute resolution Knowledge of alternative dispute resolution and mechanisms to address community grievances linked to company operations.

Long-listed candidates will be interviewed by telephone and asked to complete a written task. Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete psychometric tests and invited to a two-day interview/group testing exercise at the PeaceNexus offices in Prangins in February/March 2014.
