The opportunity
 
We are looking for a Health and Wellness Officer, based at our iron ore operation, Yandicoogina, to implement site health and wellness programmes in order to improve the health and wellbeing of employees at work and home.
 
Located 95km north-west of Newman, Yandicoogina offers a range of fly in fly out rosters. As Australia's largest producing iron ore mine, it generates more than 50 million tonnes of Hammersley Iron Yandi (HIY) fines each year.

What the role entails
 
This position is a great opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual with excellent influencing skills. Working on a fly in fly out roster (9 days on and 5 days off) and reporting to the Health and Hygiene Advisor, you will be:
  • Improving the health of employees whilst assisting in reducing work and non-work related illness and injuries
  • Assisting the Health Advisor with other health projects and improvement pieces 
  • Attending prestart, conducting associated assessments and screening activities, including blood pressure testing, cholesterol, sleep screening and posture checks
  • Managing data that comes out of research on the site whilst linking through with other teams
  • Coaching and developing programmes to support individuals identified with high health risk factors whilst educating health promotion to employees
  • Conducting sleep screens in accordance with Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) Sleep Screening Procedure
  • Implementing health promotion and injury prevention initiatives , including corporate or site programmes such as warm up for work stretches and manual handling training
What you will need for this role
 
To succeed in this exciting and challenging role, you will have:
 
  • A bachelor’s degree in Exercise or Health Science
  • A manual “C” class driver’s licence
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Relevant experience in a similar role
A Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessing along with qualification in Chemical Management and Taproot incident investigation will be desirable. Additionally, experience with audiometric testing and working knowledge of SAP will be highly regarded.
