The opportunity

We are looking for a Supervisor Drill & Blast, based at our iron ore operation, Yandicoogina, to maximise the profitability of the operation through optimal management of Drill and Blast Crew resources, whilst concurrently focusing on safety and quality. You will ensure the drilling and blasting operations are aligned to meet the planned targets.

Located 95km north-west of Newman, Yandicoogina offers a range of fly in fly out rosters. As Australia's largest producing iron ore mine, it generates more than 50 million tonnes of Hammersley Iron Yandi (HIY) fines each year.

What the role entails

This position is a great opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual seeking a new challenge. Working on a fly in fly out roster (2 weeks on and 1 week off) and reporting to the Superintendent Development/Drill and Blast, you will be:
  • Supervising the drilling and blasting operations and managing the safety of the team
  • Coordinating hot seating activities for drills and blasting activities, including evacuation of pit
  • Managing task assignment for the Drill & Blast Operators and coordinating with the Development Supervisors and Production Supervisors
  • Ensuring that pattern clean ups are done, managing inspection of clean-up standards and coordinating meal breaks for the crew
  • Managing work place inspections and coordinating with Drill & Blast Designers and Short Term Planners on daily and weekly requirements for the pit
What you will need for this role

To succeed in this exciting and challenging role, you will have:
  • A High School Certificate or equivalent
  • A Dangerous Goods Security card or the ability to obtain it
  • Basic MS (Microsoft) Word and Excel skills
  • Demonstrated experience in heavy earth moving or mining operations with exposure to supervision
  • A strong focus towards safety and safe work practices
A Heavy Rigid (HR) licence, Restricted Quarry Manager's certificate and Shot-firer's certificate along with a First Aid certificate will be desirable.  Experience of large and varied work force will be highly regarded.
