Assistant Consultants/Consultants in International Development

As part of BDO's successful Management Consultancy division, our International Projects Group (IPG) focuses almost exclusively on delivering a range of assignments in developing nations and emerging markets, principally on projects funded by bi- and multi-lateral development partners.
We are currently recruiting for two roles within our IPG team:
  • private sector development (PSD) consultant
  • public sector financial management (PFM) consultant
The PSD role will focus on providing technical assistance and support covering diverse areas of private sector development such as private sector policy and SME support, poverty alleviation, M4P, access to finance and financial sector restructuring.
The PFM role will encompass the design and implementation of “good/appropriate” public expenditure and financial management practice, focussing on institutional development and capacity-building in developing nation beneficiaries (particularly in Ministries of Finance).
In both instances the successful candidate will support the expansion of IPG's consulting services through the identification of relevant business prospects and tenders, the development of client relationships, the assembly of EoIs and proposals, and the delivery of new business. Candidates will also provide technical advice on on-going and newly-won projects and enhance IPG's reputation as a leading provider of international technical assistance.
For both roles, successful candidates will benefit from working for a consultancy that is committed to growth, providing the opportunity to apply professional skills to prospect identification and business acquisition and the delivery of international assignments through short and medium-term in-country missions.
Candidates for both positions should be proficient in English, have a strong first degree and a postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline. In addition, candidates should have obtained relevant experience of working in developing nations and transition economies for an international donor agency (e.g. WB, DFID, EC), a developing country government, or a reputable international development research/consulting organisation.  Experience of winning new work will be a significant advantage and a working knowledge of a second language (particularly French, Spanish, Portuguese or Russian) will also be beneficial.
Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK.

In addition to the full-time positions advertised above, BDO welcomes CVs from experienced independent consultants interested in ad hoc short-term project roles on a subcontractor basis.  Associates should have a minimum of five years’ technical experience in one of the following areas: SME and market development; banking and financial sector; PPP/PFI; or public sector financial management.
