Sandvik Special Metals, a leader in manufacturing of seamless titanium tubing used in the aerospace, medical, and recreational markets, and zirconium tubing used in the nuclear industry, has an exciting opening for an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager at their Kennewick, WA facility.
The Role
In this key role, the EHS Manager will be responsible for planning, directing, and implementing the organization's environmental, health and safety, and security programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment and compliance to applicable laws and regulations by performing the following duties.
Key performance areas
  • Administrates the company's Safety Management System (SMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Creates safety culture within organization and leads the Safety Committee.
  • Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. Maintains safety files and records.
  • Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
  • Inspects organization's facility to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, works with management to determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Identifies best practices and leads continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness and improve safe work practices.
  • Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and investigations.
  • Oversees the workers compensation program, including working with the third party administrator to reduce employee lost time.
  • Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
  • Ensures the company is in compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
  • Trains employees in environmental compliance.
  • Leads environmental improvement initiatives.
  • Performs the function of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14000 Lead Auditor.
  • Support the implementation of security policies and programs to ensure a safe and secure workplace.
  • All employees are responsible for participating, supporting, and maintaining compliance to the company's Quality, Environmental, and Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems, policies, procedures, programs, and activities as defined within the company's published management system documentation.
Your Profile
The qualified candidate will possess:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety or a related field or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of experience in environmental, health and safety or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience desired
  • Experience in accident/incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
