The International Finance Corporation headquartered at Washington D.C., USA is the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group. Established in 1956, IFC’s mission is to promote private sector investments in developing countries, which will reduce poverty and improve people’s lives. IFC offers a full array of financial products and services to companies in its developing member countries through long term loans, equity investments, guarantees and advice. IFC invests in private sector projects that are financially and economically viable and have a substantial development impact on the host country. It is among the largest sources of financing for the private sector in developing countries.

The Asia Infrastructure Department of the IFC is looking to recruit locally, an Investment Officer (IO) based in Mumbai/Delhi. The IO’s responsibilities will include origination and support of new transactions as well as supervision of an assigned portfolio of projects in the Infrastructure sector in the South Asia region.
Duties and Accountabilities:
The successful candidate will be a key member of the Asia Infrastructure business development, portfolio and execution team, and will work closely with the Infrastructure team in the region and those based in Washington DC. 

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing a thorough understanding of the Infrastructure sector and in depth relationships with key regional and local sector players.

• Developing investment marketing strategies within the region, including targeting potential clients/investors and promoting IFC’s products and services.

• Evaluating the attractiveness of specific transactions and making recommendation for IFC’s investments.

• Participating on teams in executing IFC’s investments with a strong focus on credit and asset quality. This would include processing mandates, conducting due diligence, structuring deals and negotiating term sheets and other documentation syndications and internal approvals.

• Monitoring and ensuring the companies’ compliance with the terms of investment agreements, and preparing timely internal supervision reports.

• Identifying early warning signals in assigned projects and where necessary, formulating/implementing strategies for work-outs, restructuring or rescheduling.

• Tracking and taking the lead in managing sensitive environment and social issues that may arise in assigned projects and championing IFC’s technical assistance and sustainability offerings to clients.

• Proactively identify potential investment partners and opportunities based on industry experience, reputation, strategic fit, and financial capability.

• Can lead moderately complex projects, good at business promotions, skilled in project planning and execution, skillfully manage client relationships.

• Carry out promotion activities; develop a strong pipeline of good quality investment opportunities

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, government officials and the business community to facilitate new IFC investments and maximize the success and impact of existing ones

• Client management throughout the processing cycle.
Selection Criteria:
• MBA or equivalent degree with at least 6-8 years of professional experience, e.g. commercial or investment banking, project finance and equity transactions.

• Strong analytical and financial structuring skills and sound business judgement.

• Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, negotiation and execution skills.

• Ability to work in large, culturally diverse and geographically dispersed teams.

• Investment Officers must have a high level of financial, analytical, and business skill, and solid practical experience.

Required Competencies

• Knowledge of overall industry trends in Infrastructure and Industrial sectors in the South Asia region;

• Strong business development and client relationship skills; ability to focus on clients’ needs effectively

• Sound business judgment in identifying potential business partners;

• The ability to interact directly and independently with senior management of potential clients as well as those of financial and technical partners;

• Ability to analyze complex projects, including assisting the clients in financial structuring;

• Appreciation of legal implications of moderately complex operations;

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

• Strong inter-personal skills;

• Ability to mentor junior investment staff; and

• Able to work in small teams, while being able to work autonomously in situations that demand quick action.
