Manager Institutional Donors

Fairfood International is a non-profit global advocacy group with its head office based in Amsterdam and hubs located in several parts of the world. It encourages food and beverage companies worldwide to address socio-economic and environmental sustainability issues within their supply chains.
Purpose of the position:
The Manager Institutional Donors is responsible for implementing Fairfood International’s strategy for fundraising with institutional donors, including international governmental agencies and foundations. She/he is expected to achieve specific project-related funding goals, diversifying and increasing the organization’s current institutional donors’ base. The Manager Institutional Donors is a member of the Fundraising Unit within the Communications and Fundraising Department
Position within the organisation:
The Communications and Fundraising Department is composed of two specialised units headed by the Director Communications and Fundraising. Each unit is composed of several managers headed by a senior manager. The Manager Institutional Donors reports directly to the Senior Manager Fundraising and is expected to work in smooth collaboration with the Fundraising team members as well as with colleagues in Communications, Operations and Advocacy.
Core responsibilities:
In close collaboration with and under the supervision of the Senior Manager Fundraising, the Manager Institutional Donors will manage and implement fundraising activities with institutional donors within an assigned budget. Her/his core responsibilities include:

1. Potential funding research
The Manager Institutional Donors investigates potential sources of funding (call for proposals, grants programs, awards etc.) from bilateral cooperation agencies, multilateral organizations and foundations and identifies interesting matching programmatic focus with Fairfood’s in-house projects and activities. She/he engages with potential donors (through phone, email, networking), keeping abreast of and updating senior management on the latest news in the development sector that are relevant to Fairfood’s mission;

2. Donor relations
As the focal point for a portfolio of grants, the Manager Institutional Donors is expected to manage high-quality donor relations (with current and future institutional donors) through timely reporting and regular information-sharing; she/he will work in good collaboration with the different departments in the house (Operations for financial reporting and Communications for donors’ visibility) to ensure excellent donor account management;

3. Grant writing
Based on project documents, research and content developed by the Advocacy program team, the Manager Institutional Donors writes grant proposals and letters of inquiry to potential donors, ensuring that the proposals match donors guidelines; she/he will follow up on all contacts made with potential donors;

4. In-house account management
The Manager Institutional Donors is the internal focal point for a number of in-house projects; as such, she/he attends advocacy program meetings and interacts with project managers, to be kept updated on the initiatives that might need funding or that need to be reported to donors.


Competences:
• Excellent organizational, time management skills, planning and follow-up abilities • Good analytical skills and ability to clearly convey complex ideas and projects • Proactive self-starter as well as team-player • Excellent writing and communicating skills in English; other languages (especially Spanish, French, German or Dutch) are an advantage

Knowledge & Experience:
• Minimum University degree preferably in Public Relations, Marketing and/or Communications • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in fundraising with institutional donors (especially grant-writing, donor reporting and relations) • Demonstrated experience in writing successful grants proposals • Demonstrated experience in working with at least one category of institutional donors (foundations, governmental agencies etc.) • Knowledge of food sustainability issues is an advantage • Affinity with Fairfood’s mission and cause is a must

Weekly hours: 24 (Three full days per week)

Duration of job position: One year with the possibility of renewal.

What we offer:
We offer a highly responsible position within an international organisation, providing sufficient opportunities to achieve results and impact. This position is part time (three days or 24 hours per week) and is remunerated in line with industry standards with a gross monthly salary of 1,684.63 Euros, a personal budget in lieu of pension of 134.77 Euros and reimbursement of work-home travel.
