Main purpose of job
Working to WSPA’s strategic vision, the Rapid Response Campaigns Manager will develop and deliver tactical campaigns in response to, or driven by, emerging opportunities or necessities in the European region. These campaigns will achieve measurable and sustainable change to benefit the welfare of animals, and are of appeal to the organisation’s supporters and donors.
DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the development of rapid response campaign strategies, ensuring campaigns identify and take advantage of opportunities and lead to measurable change
  • Assess opportunities for action, identifying creative and effective campaigning tactics, undertaking campaign-related research into targets, tactics, activities by other organizations or other interlocutors as relevant
  • Design, deliver and co-ordinate rapid response campaign strategies and initiatives for the European region
  • Work effectively with colleagues in WSPA’s International and Country offices to ensure that campaigns support the global strategy and produce valuable and meaningful outcomes for the organisation and its goals
  • Coordinate action planning and ensure consistency with campaigning standards and optimal use of resources
  • Build and develop relationships, leading and motivating project teams to effectively respond to time sensitive situations
  • Ensure that there is effective communication between relevant WSPA teams, offices and partners about projects and actions with the aim of developing and maintaining a shared understanding and plan for the campaign and related actions
  • Communicate WSPA’s positions and messages to external and internal audiences, including public forums, the media, political, economic and other actors to promote key messages
  • Carry out monitoring and evaluation of campaign projects, developing and sharing campaigning best practice learned from campaign projects across WSPA as relevant to ensure learning is developed and shared widely
  • Prepare information about planned activities for scheduling and resource management purposes; identify necessary adjustments in the planning and implementation of projects and work plans; prepare and monitor project budgets and reports
PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • Significant experience of developing campaign and communications strategies and objectives with excellent understanding of strategic campaign methodologies, and campaign development tools
  • Ability to undertake research to gather information relevant to the development of campaign strategies, the identification of campaign targets and objectives, target audiences and constituencies or other aspects of effective campaign implementation
  • Experience of campaigning on, and an understanding of, animal welfare issues and the European region is desirable
  • The ability to understand relevant information about animal welfare issues and to adapt to fast-changing situations. Experience of employing judgment and of assessing the most effective means of communication to achieve a goal within given constraints  
  • Experience of leading and implementing campaigns at national and regional levels and the ability to lead innovation and creative approaches to campaigning; experience of using online and offline activism techniques to achieve campaign objectives
  • Ability to create, develop and sustain effective working relationships and partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Excellent communications skills in English, both written and verbal; experience of writing motivating and inspiring campaign materials for a diverse range of target audiences and of communicating campaign messages and organisational positions effectively. English is WSPA’s working language and this position is based in WSPA’s office in the Netherlands
  • Experience of managing projects and ability to engage and inspire team members; experience of managing conflicting demands, meeting deadlines and adjusting priorities; and ability to identify skills gaps and experience of capacity building and training, in order to deliver on campaign objectives
  • Ability to evaluate campaigns and projects and to report progress against stated objectives; experience of managing budgets and reporting against expenditure
  • Proven experience in in representing an organisation to external stakeholders at all levels, of public speaking and media representation
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with appropriate sensitivity to differences of culture, gender and physical ability
