Associate Director, Consortium on Gender, Security, and Human Rights

The Associate Director for the Consortium on Gender, Security, and Human Rights will co-manage and assist the Director in the research, policy and educational work of the Consortium. S/he will carry out the development of a new on-line research hub on gender, peace and security; be co-responsible for the Consortium on Gender, Security and Human Rights’ internship program, including selecting, training, and managing graduate and undergraduate interns; manage a speaker series and plan faculty seminars; edit lectures for publication, and if appropriate teach one undergraduate course each year. S/he will also be responsible for oversight of the center's budget; assisting with grant writing and fundraising; assisting in research projects and the policy work of the center; and for the general administrative duties of the center, including developing collaborative relationships within the university community, with a wider network of scholars internationally, and with international organizations.
Associate Director's duties will include:
• Managing the development of an on-line research hub on gender, peace and security, including the on-going training of the volunteer intern staff populating the site with data; • Managing the development of a comprehensive research agenda for the broad field and multiple sub-themes in the field of gender, armed conflict and peace building; • Managing further develop and overseeing maintenance the center’s web site; • Managing all aspects of the Consortium on Gender, Security and Human Rights’ internship program, including interviewing applicants, identifying internship sponsors, meeting with the interns regularly for supervision purposes, training interns in effective academic research techniques, and educating interns in the field of gender and security; • Managing and providing leadership for the center’s social media outreach; • Developing and managing faculty seminars; • Developing and managing Boston-wide networking and development events • Managing the center’s speaker series, including assisting with speaker selection and event management; • Writing reports, including the center’s annual report; • Editing the transcriptions of lectures from the on-campus speaker series, for publication on the center’s website; • Managing and overseeing the center’s budget including development of an annual budget; • Reporting on funding and expenditures to the director; • Working with the Dean and the College’s major gift officer and the center’s director to raise funds for the center, including researching potential donors and grants, as well as drafting grant proposals; • Potentially developing curricula and teaching one undergraduate course a year; • Assisting interested faculty in the development of their own curricula related to gender and security issues; • Assisting in research projects and the policy work of the center, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum requirements:
PhD in a related field, and experience and skill in academic research, preferably related to gender and security, required. A Master’s Degree in a related field and a minimum of two years of experience and skill in academic research, preferably related to gender and security, may be substituted for the required PhD. Prior administrative management experience, with the ability to organize, manage, prioritize and ensure effective completion of a large number of substantial projects is required. Broad knowledge of the field of gender and security is preferred. College teaching experience in the area of gender and armed conflict, experience supervising interns, website development experience and experience in social media campaigns for nonprofits are highly desirable. Additionally:
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment; • High level personal, organizational and mentoring skills necessary to run a large internship program; • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; • Strong oral communication skills; • Strong writing and editing skills; • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and other administrative software.
