The International Finance Corporation headquartered at Washington D.C., USA is the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group. Established in 1956, IFC’s mission is to promote private sector investments in developing countries, which will reduce poverty and improve people’s lives. IFC offers a full array of financial products and services to companies in its developing member countries through long term loans, equity investments, guarantees and advice. 

IFC Tokyo Office (a) conducts global business development, primarily with Japanese companies and financial institutions; (b) maintains close relationship with the Government of Japan and other associated public agencies; and (c) promotes IFC among various stakeholders in Japan.
Duties and Accountabilities:
IFC Tokyo Office is looking to recruit an (Associate) Investment Officer based in Tokyo. The (Associate) Investment Officer works closely with IFC Tokyo Office Director and Investment/Operation Officers, who are responsible for business development, project design, relation management, and negotiation of the Corporation’s investment projects. The primary responsibilities and overall profile required for this position include: 

• build and maintain strong relationship with Japanese companies investing in INR (infrastructure, natural resources) or MAS (Manufacturing, Agriculture, and Services) sector of developing countries;

• conduct market studies to identify target specific companies and specific sub-sectors for business development; 

• design and implement business development strategy for Japanese companies investing in INR or MAS sector of developing countries: for both new and existing clients;

• prepare materials and presentations to promote IFC products;

• engage prospective clients and originate new business by working with HQ, regions, relevant industry and other colleagues;

• participate in the initial structuring, negotiating and execution of deals; 

• communicate IFC’s business strategy to the Japanese business community.

Reporting: 

This position reports to Director of Tokyo Office.
Selection Criteria:
• MBA or Chartered Accountant or equivalent qualification;

• speaker of Japanese as a native language or equivalent, strong English language skills;

• minimum of five years relevant work experience and related knowledge on the INR or MAS sector;

• good personal network in the Japanese business community; 

• strong client service orientation; ability to analyze market developments and assist clients to identify prospective projects;

• strong inter-personal skills; ability to interact effectively with clients, government officials and colleagues with various cultural backgrounds; 

• excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently;

• ability to work in a small team, while being able to work autonomously in situations that demand quick action.

Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 2 year term appointment.
