Head of Regulatory Financial Economics

This role will play a key part in supporting the management and ongoing review of financial regulations and incentives in the energy marketplace, and their effectiveness in promoting consumers’ best interests. You’ll work with key stakeholders in the industry to ensure a high level of understanding of potential risks and rewards of incentive models and ensure that they are applied correctly and consistently. You’ll lead on technical economic issues and projects relating to price control and regulation, ensuring that our analysis and policy recommendations are technically robust and academically sound, encouraging investor confidence in the sector.
As an experienced people manager, you’ll embed high standards and expectations within your team. You will also fulfil an important quality assurance role, while continually enhancing our capacity - ensuring that our analysis of incentives and financial issues is delivered with intellectual rigour and supported by relevant financial and economic theory.You’ll also oversee develop and maintain our regulatory financial reporting framework to ensure our work is informed and supported by accurate and insightful data.You’ll forge strong relationships with colleagues throughout Ofgem, but also with external consultants, the academic sector, network companies, government departments and consumer representatives.
Essential qualifications:
- Academic training in economics to masters level or evidence of equivalent understanding of relevant regulatory economic concepts from practical experience
Essential skills and experience:
- Well developed skills in financial analysis, finance theory, accountancy, audit, financial analysis, regulatory financial processes, financial modelling and writing
- Experience in advising on, or developing policy
- Managing staff, experts and stakeholder relationships
- Experience in project direction and management
- Familiarity with regulated monopoly sectors
