Senior Researchers/Researchers (Economists)

The Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) is an independent development research institute in Bergen, Norway. We generate and communicate research-based knowledge relevant for fighting poverty, advancing human rights, and promoting sustainable social development. CMI's research focuses on local and global challenges and opportunities facing low- and middle-income countries and their citizens. Our geographic orientation is towards Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. CMI has vacant positions as:

Senior Researchers/Researchers (Economists)

We are seeking candidates with substantial experience in applied econometric work, preferably in the areas of poverty, health, taxation/capital flight or natural resources/energy. Applicants with a strong background in other key thematic areas relevant to CMI will also be considered (http://www.cmi.no/). Promising scholars who have recently completed their PhD are also invited to apply.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in economics
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated ability to attract research funding
  • Experience from research collaboration in the South
  • Good communication, teamwork and networking skills
  • Ability to contribute to improving the work and skills of other CMI staff
  • Fluency in English (other languages are a plus)
  • Self-starting and creative

In addition to an interview, potential candidates may be asked to demonstrate academic and communication skills through an open lecture.
