ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER Sociology Re-advertisement

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of Criminology/Criminal Justice, Research Methods, plus any other substantive areas as determined by the Department of Sociology; (ii) supervise student research projects and thesis at both undergraduate and graduate levels; (iii) conduct research in their area of expertise; (iv) provide service to the community; (v) for Associate Professor, they will also be expected to provide academic leadership and act as a mentor to junior academic staff; (vi) carry out duties as assigned by the Head of Department. Teaching and research experience in any of the following areas will be considered as an added advantage: Electronic Crime, Organized Crime, Psychology of Criminal Behavior, Forensic Criminology, Criminal Justice Policy Analysis.

Requirements: Associate Professor: Candidates should: (i) have at least a Masters Degree in Criminology or equivalent (ii) Bachelors Degree in Criminology or a cognate discipline; (iii) hold the position of Associate Professor of Criminology or iv) at least 5 years university teaching experience or equivalent; (iv) have a cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 12 publications, 8 of which are peer reviewed journal articles; (v) lead and/or single author in at least 6 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (vi) have evidence of academic leadership; (vii) evidence of service to the university, the profession and the community; (viii) A PhD will be an added advantage. Senior Lecturer: (i) have at least a Masters Degree in Criminology or equivalent plus Bachelors degree in the relevant discipline and at least a 2(ii) pass; (ii) a minimum of three (3) years teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iii) have a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 publications, 4 of which are peer reviewed journal articles; (iv) lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (v) applicants should demonstrate evidence of service; (vi) demonstration of effective academic leadership will be an added advantage. Lecturer: Applicants for the position should have: (i) a Masters degree in Criminology ;(ii) a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology or relevant discipline with at least a 2(ii) pass and an overall aggregate not less than 65%; (iii) show evidence of engagement in research; (iv) teaching experience at a university or comparable institution and demonstration of effective academic leadership will be an added advantage.
