Technical Director: Food Security, Nutrition, Agricultural Development, Washington, DC

Position Summary: MSI is seeking an experienced Technical Director to serve as a resident expert in global food security, nutrition and/or agricultural development practices. The Director’s primary responsibility will be to manage existing projects in this area, as well as assist in expanding MSI’s agriculture and nutrition portfolio. The Director will capitalize on MSI’s long history of international development programming, provide technical assistance to a range of existing programs and work closely with colleagues in other technical areas. Responsibilities:

• Provide technical guidance and oversight for food security, nutrition and agricultural development related activities; • Engage with USAID and other development agencies on programming issues around food security; • Oversee long-term projects as well as short-term assignments in project design, performance evaluation and technical guidance to USAID missions worldwide; • Select and oversee the work of consultants and long-term technical staff on MSI projects; • Represent MSI at high-level food security meetings and conferences; • Serve as a technical writer and contributor to proposals within these technical areas.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of 10 years of experience managing, designing and evaluating USAID nutrition, food security and/or agriculture projects; • Keen analytic understanding of food security issues; • A strong understanding of M&E practices, performance monitoring systems, and statistical methods of data collection and analysis; • Extensive USAID experience, including experience within USAID or as an implementing partner; • Willing and able to travel on short-term technical assistance trips throughout the world; • Advanced degree in a relevant field required.
