Trustee – Human Resources/Organisation Development

Amnesty International’s (AI) mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of human rights. Founded in 1961, now with over 3.2 million members, supporters and donors in over 150 countries and offices in over 80 countries.

About the role

The International Executive Committee (IEC) of Amnesty International is responsible for the governance of AI at an international level and is comprised of nine volunteers. The IEC is looking for a highly experienced and accomplished Human Resources professional to support the aims of AI and who can complement the experience and skills of the current members.

The IEC is looking for someone who supports the aims of AI and who can complement the experience and skills of the current members to strengthen the oversight role, bringing high levels of experience and achievement in human resources and organizational development.

You will attend four three-day meetings per year in/near London, the first being on 23-25 March 2012, and will also participate in some sub-committees and AI’s biennial International Council meeting. The total time commitment will be about 25 days annually, mostly during weekends.

About you

Suitable candidates will have excellent professional achievement in human resources and organization development, including overseeing major change with accountability at a level equivalent to Senior Director or Board Member or above in a successful international organization. Understanding of the non-profit sector and capability to work with diverse and multicultural teams are also very important. Experience of the decentralisation of a large organization, working with trade unions and knowledge of UK employment legislation and practice are also desirable.

With the highest level of personal integrity, effective communication, willingness to contribute the necessary time and effort and a strong commitment to the aims of AI.
