Activities Coordinator - Senior Centers

PART TIME - 30 HRS/WK

PURPOSE:

As part of the Older Adult Services team, plans and implements health and wellness programs/classes, activities and events for older adults across the age and ability spectrum living independently in several communities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelors degree preferred in the field of art, dance, music, drama, or recreational therapy, with three years’ experience working with older adults in a multidisciplinary setting. Knowledge of aging issues and social and recreational resources to meet the needs of an aging community; Demonstrated ability to develop, organize and implement group programming; leadership abilities; experience working with volunteers preferred. Ability to take initiative and be flexible. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written and organizational skills. Computer literate with experience in Word, Excel, Publisher, Photoshop, digital cameras/photos. Able to work independently. Knowledge of Jewish Holidays for programming purposes. Culturally sensitive and able to work with a multicultural client/customer population; ability to work in a non-judgmental manner and foster positive growth/outcomes; able to work as part of a team and maintain professional boundaries.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. In support of JFS’ vision to promote health and wellness, plan and implement healthy living classes, activities and lectures that are age and culturally appropriate for an active senior population.
  2. Plan, organize and supervise cultural events, luncheons, gatherings and trips.
  3. Schedule guest speakers and entertainers for multiple sites.
  4. Recruit and supervise contracted instructors, maintaining contracts and W9’s; develop and maintain professional working relationships with outside vendors
  5. Work closely with the JFS Volunteer Department to recruit, train and supervise activity volunteers.
  6. Collaborate with and assist other JFS programs and team members on intra-agency health and wellness programming and projects (i.e. health and fitness center, other senior centers, other grants, and fairs).
  7. Prepare monthly statistical reports in accordance with funding source and JFS guidelines; develop attendance and other tracking forms as needed to record participation for statistics.
  8. Create quarterly newsletter, monthly calendars and event flyers under supervision of the FMMC director and in coordination with the JFS Communications Department
  9. Market activities by advertising, coordinating mailings, distributing activity calendars and newsletters and maintaining activity bulletin boards
  10. Plan and facilitate community focus groups to obtain and use feedback in planning activities
  11. Other related duties as assigned
