Health & Safety Manager

Health and Safety Manager – Amherstburg Plant
Purpose
To support risk management throughout the site by providing technical and management support to line management; To promote continual advancement in the management of risk in the following areas: Health & Safety, Security, Environment, Loss Control, Business Continuity, and Crisis Management; To deliver the NA risk management strategy at the site.

Financial Responsibility
Responsible for managing local budget.

Management Responsibility
There are no direct reports.
Lead cross-functional teams as appropriate.

Complexity of Role
Requires an in-depth knowledge of local and federal health and safety, and environmental, regulations and how they apply to site operations;
Requires facilitating and embedding risk tools and programs at all levels of the site; Requires in-depth knowledge of production operations and an understanding of the overall NA Supply footprint;
Ability to win hearts and minds and influence decision-making at the level of supply vice president, line managers and production operators.

Key Outputs/Deliverables
1. Monitor site Risk KPI’s, including safety incidents and environmental data, reporting locally and to NA Risk Management on a monthly basis. Manage data collection for annual REM (Risk Evaluation Model) reporting.
2. Identify site risks using the appropriate risk assessment process and ensure that significant risks are managed and mitigated to appropriate levels of control and that Risk Management programs and systems are fully and consistently implemented and integrated into site operations. Ensure that Business Continuity Plans are kept up-to-date.
3. Share leadership of the site behavior-based safety program implementation with site Director and VP of Supply.
4. Ensure that all incidents are investigated, recorded and appropriate improvement actions implemented
5. Manage, maintain and continuously improve the site’s Environmental Management System. Serve as site administrator for the Entropy program.
6. Lead action planning to achieve site environmental targets in the areas of BOD reduction, water use, energy use and waste generation.
7. Work as part of the wider NA Supply Risk Management team with dotted line reporting to Director of Risk Management, NA Supply.
8. Roll-out and manage local adherence to Diageo’s Global License to Operate Program, covering the areas of Occupational Health and Safety, Quality, and Environment.

Experience
Undergraduate degree in science or engineering required. Graduate level degree or qualification in one or more of the Risk areas preferred
Knowledge of relevant environmental, health and safety legislation
Experience in compliance and/or management system auditing
5+ years of experience in an industrial environment
Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills and demonstrated project management capabilities
Proactive and effective in building & maintaining relationships both inside and outside own team
Capable of challenging others and comfortable with being challenged
