Job Description
The mission of Army Medical Directorates Environmental Monitoring Team is to “provide deployable Environmental and Industrial Hazard (EIH) monitoring services in support of operations and to provide second line occupational hygiene advice to UK Land Forces and Defence Agencies”. As such EMT is the Army’s in-house multidisciplinary occupational hygiene consultants, comprising of a small team of both military and civilian personnel. The Scientific Advisor (Acoustics) is the Director General Army Medical Services subject matter expert in noise and vibration, providing advice to forums and committees. The post is the lead for the development of noise monitoring protocols and strategies within AMD EMT and the successful applicant will be expected to undertake noise surveys/monitoring of personnel and equipment in the UK and worldwide (including operational areas), so can expect short periods away. The post requires the ability to monitor a variety of noise and vibration hazards including military vehicles, impulse noise from weapon systems and occupational settings (e.g. workshop). Consequently the working environment can be potentially austere and demanding (e.g. remote ranges, the confines of an armoured vehicle in a desert).


Essential: A L6 Honours/Degree in a relevant engineering/scientific field, or ,exceptionally, a lower level of qualification if supported by substantial relevant experience.

Desirable: Post graduate degree/qualification in relevant scientific discipline. Experience in assessing impulse noise, including use of multi channel monitoring equipment. Laboratory/occupational hygiene experience.
