Senior Grants Officer

Reporting to the Director, Foundation Relations and Government Grants, the Senior Development Officer for Foundation Relations will manage a major portfolio of grant development and seeking projects related to foundation and corporate giving in support of the many Departments and Programs at Boston Medical Center. As a member of this dynamic team, cultivate and manage a portfolio of grants from foundations, corporations, and federal agencies in support of the many departments and programs at BMC. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong political sensitivities and excellent judgment, an excellent writer able to perform under tight deadlines, an outstanding project manager able to manage the work of multiple people towards the completion of high quality grant and proposal applications, and an accomplished multi-task professional. The candidate will be able to perform under stress and relish the many opportunities to develop new multi-disciplinary programs aligned with the BMC Strategic Plan; to broker new internal and external collaborations and partnerships; and to cultivate new six-figure funding sources and principal investigators. The candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of health care service delivery models and trends in the organization and financing of health care systems. Some knowledge of research and evaluation methods is also needed, along with the knowledge to assess to assess scientific proposals for innovation and impact; to advise principal investigators on proposal content in relation to evaluation criteria; and to strengthen proposal contents.

The candidate will work with senior clinical and administrative staff and other Senior Grants Officers to brainstorm and generate new opportunities for the hospital and to manage proposal development. Whenever possible, he or she will facilitate productive dialogue between funders and principal investigators to ensure that proposals have a high likelihood of success. Initiative, drive and excellent interpersonal skills are key to this position. The Senior Grant Officer will be responsible for generating new opportunities for BMC and capturing several million dollars of grant support for BMC annually.

Qualifications

  • Seven to 10 years of development and/or healthcare experience, or progressively responsible job experience in another setting that develops relevant skills.
  • Demonstrated fundraising success in foundation and/or government grants, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent writing, editing and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher; Masters or equivalent preferred.
  • Proven ability to innovate in large, complex systems
  • Track record in managing complex relationships, programs and multiple demands.
  • Proven ability to make decisions, work independently and as a team player.
