Gender Specialist- Afghanistan

MEDA invites applications for a Gender Specialist for the Stabilization in Key Areas (SIKA)- South project located in Kandahar, Afghanistan. MEDA will be a subcontractor to the primary partner on this contract. Gender Specialist- Afghanistan (donor funding not yet secured)

As a member of the senior management team, the Gender Specialist will oversee the integration of gender issues in all facets of the projects’ development and implementation. He/she will be responsible for providing advice and support to all other project activities in terms of gender integration and monitoring of relevant indicators. The Gender Specialist will work closely with the Chief of Party in the design and delivery of the necessary training programs and targeted gender integration while collaborating with colleagues to effectively optimize resources and ensure a cohesive project strategy. This position will be based in Kandahar, Afghanistan and will report directly to the Chief of Party of the SIKA South project. Anticipated start date is early 2012.

Qualifications:

-Five to ten years demonstrated experience in women-focused project implementation including:
project design (strategic and technical), budgeting, report-writing, monitoring and evaluation, training
and capacity development.

-Post-secondary education in a related discipline: gender, governance, economic development, etc.

-Creative and resourceful approach to developing programs that integrate women into various facets
society in culturally appropriate and sustainable ways.

-Proven and adaptable interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills. Ability to professionally
and effectively communicate with individuals at various levels.

-Fluency in English is required. Facility with Dari, Farsi or Pashtun is a strong advantage.
