CHF (Canadian Hunger Foundation) & MEDA (Mennonite Economic Development Associates) are seeking a Gender Specialist to support the achievement of gender equality results in an agricultural value chain enhancement project focusing on the fruit and vegetable sub-sector. Based in Cambodia, the Gender Specialist will be responsible for providing technical advice and support to mainstream gender in all project stages including the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation. S/he will lead the development & implementation of appropriate gender equality strategies for the project in collaboration with the project team, partners, beneficiaries and other project stakeholders. Donor funding not yet secured.

Duties:

  • Carry out a gender analysis and use results to design and implement gender equality strategies.
  • Contribute to the economic empowerment of women farmers through the use of successful interventions.
  • Advise on changes to gender-related policy areas which may impact the project implementation.
  • Carry out gender training, as per work plans, to the project team, local partners and beneficiaries.
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure gender issues are effectively integrated into all project activities.
  • Document results and prepare reports as required.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with NGOs or working on agriculture projects including solid field experience, especially in Cambodia or other South East Asian countries.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current economic empowerment approaches and including policy and practices of donor agencies
  • A Graduate level degree or equivalent in gender studies, rural development or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of market-led development or Value Chain Development.
  • Able to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in English; an understanding of Khmer highly desirable.
  • A commitment to overcoming poverty and inequity.
