Project Manager - Sierra Leone Country Office

An employment opportunity has arisen for a two year contract in the Sierra Leone country office, Freetown.

Overall purpose and responsibilities:

The Project Manager (PM) will be under the direction of the Country Director managing the implementation of Sightsavers’ 4 year Programmes that are being funded by the European Commission (EC) and Standard Chartered Bank Seeing is Believing (SCB-SiB) and lead the process of active participation and input from Programme Manager/Project Officer/ Financial Services Support Manager on detailed annual implementation plans, budgets and overall delivery and quality assurance of the project implementation in Sierra Leone.

The post holder will also support the maintenance of relationships with EC and SCB in country and support Sightsavers and its partners to maximise income in compliance with the rules and regulations through close collaboration with programme, funding and finance teams. This post should also support the programme staff on implementation of the Irish Aid and other grants.

S/he will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring effective and efficient implementation of Sightsavers’ Programmes Funded by the EC, SCB and other donors including Irish Aid and other donors
  • Supporting the development of other funding opportunities and proposals in co-ordination with the existing WARO Grants Officer
  • Developing Sierra Leone Country Office capacity to implement programmes

To succeed, you’ll have a proven track record of working in project management for an international development organization.

  • Education & Experience: Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):
  • Minimum academic qualification is a degree in relevant field (Social Sciences or International Development). A master’s degree in stated field is desirable.
  • Demonstrable,practical experience of managing programmes/projects working with reputable INGOs
  • Practical experience of having led implementation of programmes funded by major funding agencies e.g. the EC or USAID, Irish Aid, DFID
  • Strong knowledge of current development philosophies and trends
  • Fluency in English essential

  • Strong skills in project design, project management, budget development and monitoring, resource management
