Economists – permanent and temporary opportunities for experienced professionals
£30,720 - £41,240 (plus London weighting dependant on location)
Bristol or London

From regulating major industry to reducing pollution incidents, from improving water and air quality to preventing the risk of flooding, it’s our job at the Environment Agency to protect and improve the environment throughout England and Wales. Join our Economics and Social Science Team, and you can play an important role in ensuring that future generations inherit a cleaner, healthier world.

You will provide economic advice and guidance to the Environment Agency on our main business areas, including water and the regulation of business. The roles will involve both leading the development of economic advice and guidance and supporting their application and use. You will be working across the Environment Agency and with external partners, including government departments, businesses, and researchers.

We’ll look to you to help us develop a strategic approach so that we can build a better evidence base more efficiently, for example in achieving the environmental outcomes of the Water Framework Directive or delivering a better environment. It’s a chance to work with the whole organisation from the Chief Executive’s Directorate to Operations, and ensure we provide good value for money while providing social and economic insight and analysis.

You will need a track record of providing high quality economic advice. Expertise in risk analysis, regulation, econometrics and valuation would be highly desirable, as would knowledge of the context of EU environmental policy. Able to work on your own initiative, you will have excellent analytical and communication skills, a strong focus on customer engagement, and a flair for problem solving.

You will be based in Bristol or at another Environment Agency office by negotiation. However, the work will require frequent travel to other Environment Agency locations.

We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve.

We welcome applications from candidates seeking flexible working patterns, including job share. Please highlight any information regarding preferred flexible working arrangements on your application.
