The Mobile Manufacturers Forum (MMF) is an international association of radio equipment manufacturers headquartered in Brussels, whose members include Alcatel One Touch, Apple, Cisco, Ericsson, Intel, LG, Motorola Mobility, Motorola Solutions, Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks, Samsung and Sony. The MMF was formed in 1998 to jointly fund key research projects, as well as to cooperate on standards, regulatory issues and communications activities concerning health and mobile phones.
MMF communications activity is designed to provide high quality public information and analysis on the subject of the safety of electromagnetic fields from mobile communications equipment, accessibility, counterfeit and sub-standard mobile phones. The MMF has a vacancy for a Communications & Regulatory Officer to help implement the association’s communications plan.
The ideal candidate will have more than 5 years experience working in public communications or political forums. The job will involve active participation in MMF communications activities, in particular the Communications Working Group. The job involves MMF communication via media channels such as, press, TV and the MMF web sites and social media. The role forms a key part of implementing the MMF communication strategy.
Reporting to the Secretary General of the MMF the jobholder will be responsible for coordinating responses to media and regulatory enquiries relating to mobile phone safety, accessibility, counterfeit and sub-standard mobile phones as well as RF EMF risks in general.
The position would be offered at one of the existing MMF office locations located in Brussels, Vienna or Hong Kong with an expected commencement date of 1st October 2012.
Tasks
The specific tasks are:
- Monitor media and regulatory developments with regards to radio frequency electromagnetic fields (RF EMF), counterfeit and sub-standard mobile phones and accessibility related issues.
- Participate and contribute to the development of MMF communications messages in consultation with relevant MMF working groups
- Assist in expanding the association’s communications activities across all channels, with a particular emphasis on social media.
- Support national and international bodies in relation to the issues outlined above.
- Assist in the recruitment and management of companies into MMF programs that are offered to Non-Members Participants;
- Support implementation of recommended international science-based exposure regulations.
- Represent the association and its members in national and international forums on the above-mentioned issues.
Skills Required
- Demonstrated experience of working with traditional and social media and an understanding of the telecommunications industry.
- Proficiency in English is essential while proficiency in another language/s would also be an advantage (especially French and/or German).
- Practical experience in developing and implementing communications strategies preferably gained within a mobile communications, association/NGO or public affairs environment.
- Knowledge of how industry associations operate is desirable.
- Ability to translate technical information into effective communications material for the public.
- Ability to author/update websites and manage social media communications channels.
Personal Competencies Required
- Excellent communication skills (oral & written) in English and highly desired in one or more other languages.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
- Initiative, self-motivation and the ability to see tasks through to completion.
- Ability and willingness to work as part of an international team.
