Regional Coordinator Specialist

Working under the direct supervision of the Chair of the UNDG Asia and the Pacific (UNDG AP) to support the Regional Directors’ Team, the assigned Coordination Specialist has responsibility to work with the UNDG AP to support and help coordinate the design, development, management, and monitoring of UNDG AP activities to achieve outcomes as articulated in the UNDG AP Annual Workplan. As a primary responsibility, the Coordination Specialist will deepen support for the CCA/UNDAF processes and support the role of the Regional Directors to assess the work of the Resident Coordinator (RC) and UN Country Team (UNCT) in each country.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Coordination Specialist will facilitate and coordinate the interactions of regional technical advisers and experts working with the Regional Directors, and promote partnership, and synergy with the UNDG agencies to achieve results stipulated in the UNDG AP Annual Workplan and UNCT Annual Workplans.

Specific duties include:
  • Assist the UNDG AP in ensuring that the latest UN Reform directives and initiatives are implemented, monitored and reported including regional oversight functions, QSA, joint programming, resource mobilization strategies, strengthened country level coordination support, post crisis, and other UN reform mandates;
  • Assist the UNDG AP to ensure the implementation, database maintenance, follow-up and report back from RC/UNCT 180 assessment processes;
  • If requested by the UNDG AP, assist the regional technical support staff to facilitate inter-agency processes to coordinate substantive and technical inputs into UNCT programme development and implementation, ensuring substantive monitoring;
  • Assist the UNDG AP in writing UNDG AP summary notes, communications with UNCTs and HQ, drafting of UNDG AP documents, organizing UNDG AP and partner meetings and events;
  • Assist the UNDG AP to organize training needs to sensitize staff to the emerging UN reform priorities in collaboration with UNDGO and UN staff college to strengthen inter-agency coordination and spirit towards the principles of harmonization and simplification;
  • Drafting UNDG AP summary notes, communications with UNCTs and HQ, UNDG AP documents. Organizing UNDG AP and partner meetings and events;
  • Support inter-agency initiatives and regional focal points (task teams, thematic groups, meetings, events), as articulated in the UNDG AP annual workplan, to achieve UNDG AP results especially related to enhanced coherent regional support to UNCTs and completion, analysis and follow-up to RC/UNCT performance assessments;
  • Support the UNDG AP to monitor progress towards annual workplan results while working with regional focal points to maintain databases and other monitoring tools which document oversight and support actions.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master’s degree in development, organizational development, economics, and/or other related social science field;

Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years professional experience preferably in programme/project management or coordination in the public or private sector;
  • Experience and knowledge of UN Reform issues including UNDAF, joint programming, UNDG, OECD/DAC, Country Office operations, and other knowledge and skills relevant to the implementation of UN Reform at country level;
  • Exceptional organizational and inter-personal skills are essential.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English with exceptional writing and analytical skills in English;
  • Proficiency in a second UN language is highly desirable.
