Advisors – Making All Voices Count: A Grand Challenge for Development (MAVC)
About the Programme
For Making All Voices Count (MAVC), the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Omidyar Network (ON) will jointly create a Fund to support innovation, scaling-up and research in the use of technology to support open government and citizen engagement. This Grand Challenge for Development will focus global attention on innovative solutions and uses of technology that amplify the voices of citizens and enable governments to listen and respond effectively, with the goal of creating more effective democratic governance and accountability.
MAVC Fund will identify and support work in four areas to exploit mobile, web and new technologies in support of citizen engagement and government responsiveness:
• Backing innovative ideas and technology solutions• Building an evidence base on what works and why • Scaling up successful initiatives and responses • Catalyzing global attention and action around these issues
MAVC will concentrate its efforts in emerging democracies, where delivering to citizens is at a particular premium, with an expected focus at municipal and subnational levels, where citizens interact most with government.
DAI is seeking experienced and dynamic Advisors to work across the four areas of the Fund.
Duties and Responsibilities
We are looking for advisors with experience in the following areas:
• Research methods, applied research, and monitoring and evaluation of DFID funded programmes particularly in the area of governance
• Social investments, private sector engagement, public private partnerships
• Campaign management, communications and marketing programmes, and digital communications
• Taking ideas to market, global innovation initiatives, garnering venture capital for new products
Requirements:
• Proven track record in developing and delivering approaches for citizen engagement, democratic governance, or ICTs;
• A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in areas such as governance, ICT for development, citizen engagement, public- private partnership etc.;
• Passionate about and familiar with the role technology can play in solving complex development questions, such as communication barriers and effective citizen involvement in democratic governance;
• Creative, innovative thinker;
• International working experience in developing countries is essential, experience in Africa or Asia preferred;
• Excellent communication skills, including strong presentation and facilitation skills;• Fluency in English (both written and oral) is essential; • Knowledge of an additional language is a distinct advantage;
