The Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the energy performance of buildings across Europe, and thereby helping to reduce CO2 emissions from the energy used by buildings. BPIE acts both as an independent centre of expertise on all aspects of energy efficiency and renewable energy in European buildings, and as the European centre for the Global Building Performance Network. The BPIE is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic Junior Communications Manager to support the Senior Expert Communications and Outreach. The successful candidate will be a university graduate with first professional experience (1-3 years) and achievements and be committed to the mission of the BPIE.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Senior Expert Communications and Outreach, the roles and responsibilities as Junior Communication Manager are:
  • Support implementing the communications strategy of BPIE;
  • Develop and manage relevant stakeholder networks and liaise with other organisations sharing common objectives in terms of sustainable energy policies and sustainable construction;
  • Develop and manage relevant media contacts to promote the organisation’s goals and messages;
  • Draft press releases, articles and texts for the BPIE website and other documents (in English);
  • Develop opportunities to profile BPIE;
  • Edit publications (policy or research oriented), brochures, newsletters and other print or digital communication materials dedicated to large-scale dissemination;
  • Organise conferences, seminars and other events;
  • Support communication related tasks within EU funded projects in which BPIE is a partner;
  • Provide guidance on communications matters to colleagues with a technical background.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Native English speaker or equivalent level;
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications or public affairs or similar;
  • Relevant professional experience, gained through a first employment or internships;
  • Proven media relations experience;
  • Excellent understanding of Brussels policy processes;
  • Excellent writing skills, ability to communicate technical issues in a policy relevant manner;
  • Affinity with the topic and the capacity to understand policy and technical aspects related to energy performance of buildings;
  • Citizen of an EU 27 country.

CONDITIONS

The BPIE offers a permanent full time contract based in Brussels and ideally starting early January 2013 under Belgian law. Remuneration aligned with experience and skills.
