Position Description

The newly established School of Public Policy (SPP) at the Central European University in Budapest seeks to fill the position of web editor. The School’s Executive Education and Outreach Unit, within which the position is located, promotes the work of SPP and its affiliated centers, by increasing public relations and awareness, inter alia through its website. The initial contract is for 2 years with a possibility of renewal.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Within SPP’s Executive Education and Outreach Unit, the successful candidate will perform the following duties:

• Maintain the website of SPP and those of academic centers affiliated with it, including by posting new content, regularly updating all relevant pages, and setting up ‘mini’ websites for major events;
• Monitor and update materials on social media sites used by SPP;
• Perform research to supplement available information, based on input from SPP staff and faculty; draft and edit texts and compile information for the SPP website;
• Produce audio-visual materials about SPP activities and collaborate with CEU Communications Unit to produce videos of SPP courses and make them available on social media sites; take, select and upload photographs for the website;
• Edit and proofread English-language SPP reports and publications;
• Advise SPP staff and faculty on content, format, and posting processes, and ensure that presentation of material is consistent with university-wide and SPP-wide visual identity guidelines;
• Maintain regular contact with the CEU web team to ensure consistency with the overall CEU web operations;
• Advise on SPP’s online education strategic plan and on innovative modes of teaching and learning, and explore related technology infrastructure needs, in collaboration with CEU’s E-learning Center.

Specific qualifications

• First-level university degree. A degree or certificate in web design, web editing, computer science would be an asset;
• Previous professional experience, preferably in the field of website and/or publications editing or online learning;
• Proven editing skills and familiarity with all major computer applications;
• Advanced literacy in digital technology and knowledge of social media software;
• Experience with educational technology would be an asset;
• Ability and experience in the area of the production of basic audio-visual materials is desirable;
• Experience in a university or international organization is desirable.

General qualifications

• Ability to identify and propose solutions;
• Excellent knowledge of English and proven editing skills and the ability to draft and summarize texts exemplifying a native or near native-level;
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds;
• Gender and cultural awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities;
• Attention to detail and ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
