Community Relations Director (CRD, ad interim)


IICD is a non-profit foundation that specialises in information and communication technology (ICT) as a tool for development. IICD is active in Africa and Latin America where we bring about technical and social innovations that create and enhance development opportunities in education, health, agriculture and economic development.

The Community Relations (CR) Department is responsible for Northern partnerships (acquisition, management and reporting), publications (for knowledge and PR-purposes) and communications (website and events). The team consists of 7 professionals.
Due to maternity leave we are looking for a:
Community Relations Director (CRD, ad interim)
For a definitive period from December 15th, 2012 to May 24th, 2013 we are looking for a people manager to guide and manage our CR team within this period to allow them to concentrate on their deliverables.
The CR Team is responsible for products to serve the information and learning needs of the communities. They are also responsible for fundraising activities and products. The CR Team applies a customised approach in order to serve these different communities.

Summary of key responsibilities
The CRD ad interim (a.i.) pro-actively implements IICD-wide professional community relations strategy in order to assist MT and Staff in achieving the IICD's vision, mission and strategy. For the CRD this involves the following specific goals: keeping IICD aware of its communities’ needs and expectations, keeping the community informed about IICD’s accomplishments and acquiring funding for IICD and partners.
The CRD a.i. is a management position responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing the above mentioned IICD community relations strategy, and for ensuring that all appropriate teams are adequately informed and involved.
He/She must be able to differentiate between IICD as an organisation and IICD as part of the International Community and reports to the Managing Director.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Supervise, mentor, strategise, oversee and review activities of the CR Team according to the individual workplans ;
  • Proactively coordinate and implement the community and media relations strategy in order to ensure that the needs of IICD’s clients/partners are well-known to IICD staff; IICD messages and image are appropriately conveyed to the public; that the public is informed of community benefits provided by IICD; and that communities learning needs are satisfied;
  • Play a key role in stimulating and guarding acquisition activities of the team in the North;
  • Have an active role in stimulating and guiding knowledge sharing as well as knowledge management activities within IICD;
  • Works together with the Sector Development Unit, Country Programs and Central Services;
  • Represents the team in the Management Team.
Summary of Experience
As a qualified candidate for this challenging and exiting Executive position you have performed at least 5 years in progressively responsible Executive roles preferable within the non-profit sector and have experience in one of our main team activities (partnerships, fundraising, knowledge management).
Must haves:
 
  • Master Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, non-profit management;
  • Proven ability to negotiate, influence, and collaborate with other key decision makers in a complex environment;
  • Ability to coach and mentor others;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a management team;
