UNU World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER)

UNU-WIDER, a research and training centre of the United Nations University located in Helsinki, Finland, is looking for an outstanding individual with strong commitment to conduct research and capacity building in the area of the Institute’s work programme. Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director/Chief Economist, and in coordination with Chief, Administrative and Programme Services, the Digital Content Designer will:

• Assist in web administration and management of www.wider.unu.edu/recom, http://www.wider.unu.edu and other related sites;
• Assist in web development and design of registration pages, newsletters, ReCom and UNU-WIDER websites;
• Assist in planning of audiovisual components in connection to ReCom meetings and other UNU-WIDER events;
• Support and coordinate in the procurement, designing, editing, organizing, disseminating and storing of digital and audiovisual materials of UNU-WIDER (video, audio, electronic forms, policy briefs, and print material like posters, brochures, policy briefs, banners, etc.);
• Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Required qualifications and experience:

• Completion of relevant secondary education (a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent is an advantage);
• At least two (2) years of progressively relevant professional experience, preferably in an international organization. Knowledge of the UN systems is an advantage;
• Outstanding knowledge of digital content creation and web development; a high degree of proficiency in desktop publishing and video editing software Adobe Creative Suite, and web-based content management systems, especially Drupal and Joomla. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Power Point) is an advantage;
• A basic knowledge in html5, PHP and CSS is required;
• Excellent communication skills with fluency in both oral and written English. Knowledge of another UN official language would be an asset;
• Ability to work under minimal supervision and with high level of resilience;
• Strong ability to establish priorities, multi-task and work within tight timelines;
• A good team player with strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. 

Remuneration:

Remuneration will commensurate with qualifications, experience and level of responsibilities within the Administration.

Duration of contract:

This is full-time employment on a Personnel Service Agreement (PSA) contract with UNU-WIDER until 31 December 2013, with the possibility for renewal subject to requirements and satisfactory work performance.

This is a locally-recruited post; no relocation allowance applies. The post is limited to a person residing in Finland, including a non-Finn holding a valid working visa. The successful candidate will be employed under a local contract and will not hold international civil service status nor be a “staff member” as defined in the UN Staff Rules and Regulations.
