The Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC) of Qatar University is the first state -of-art animal facility at Qatar. LARC is committed to provide quality animal husbandry and veterinary care to support the leading role of the University in education, and research. LARC is devoted to advise, educate and train researchers, staff and students on animal experimentation matters and to promote and assure humane care and use of animals through compliance with International and University policies for the humane care and use of animals. LARC provides support and services to the biomedical research activities including rodents and transgenic animal models.
Position Summary:
The Laboratory Animal Research Center has an opening position for an engineering technician. The qualified applicant must have a minimum of three years' experience in similar job and a BS Engineering or Mechanical/Industrial Technology, or closely related areas.

Duties and responsibilities:
Engineering technician is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and overall management of laboratory animal care personnel and the animal facility. The duties include:
  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics and repairs for automated watering, ventilation and autoclaving and cleaning system on buildings;
  • Complete work orders for a variety of structure and equipment repairs;
  • Ensures the safe, efficient operation of the Technical Operations systems within LARC;
  • Monitors and manages the performance, effectiveness, and efficiencies of equipment at LARC;
  • Oversight of technical reliability and directs daily maintenance requirements for the facilities and maintenance during any equipment upgrade/redesign/re-builds;
  • Reviews requirements, collects specific details, determines intervals, and implements the Preventive Maintenance Program;
  • Forecasts and evaluates anticipated maintenance and engineering needs for site and corporate initiatives;
  • Oversight of maintenance materials, project materials, replacement parts or equipment components as required;
  • Perform daily inspection of building systems;
  • Develop competence and knowledge of tools and equipment used in ground and facility maintenance.

  • Ability to conduct investigative, quantitative, and qualitative analysis;
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
Qualifications:
  • BS Engineering or Mechanical/Industrial Technology;
  • 3-5 years' of experience in similar job and project management with preference in biomedical equipments and automated ventilation and watering system;
  • Reliability and Quality Engineering skills i.e. statistics capability studies, statistical process control and Total Productive Maintenance;
  • Experienced with project planning and budgets.
