The Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC) of Qatar University is the first state -of-art animal facility at Qatar. LARC is committed to provide quality animal husbandry and veterinary care to support the leading role of the University in education, and research. LARC is devoted to advise, educate and train researchers, staff and students on animal experimentation matters and to promote and assure humane care and use of animals through compliance with International and University policies for the humane care and use of animals. LARC provides support and services to the biomedical research activities including rodents and transgenic animal models.
Position Summary:
The Laboratory Animal Research Center has an opening position for animal care technician. The qualified applicant must have a minimum of three years' experience with similar job and BSc in biological or animal sciences or closely related areas.

Duties and responsibilities:
Animal Care Technician is responsible for performing routine duties associated with animal care in a research setting. The duties include:
  • Support the care of mice and rats used for live animal research;
  • Change bedding, wash cages, check on health of animals, check on food level;
  • Assess number of animals per cage and document status of animal cages/general health;
  • Caring for the animals' health and welfare and document of census and animal health record;
  • Assist in the euthanasia of animals;
  • Maintenance of cleanliness in the animal house;
  • Maintaining inventory of food and bedding for the animals;
  • Regular monitoring of Air handling units and watering system;
  • Sanitation of caging and rooms;
  • Receipt and transport;
  • Provision of food and water;
  • Changing and cleaning of cages;
  • Sanitation of caging and rooms.
Competencies:
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills;
    Strong demonstrated problem-identification and resolution skills;
  • Ability to conduct investigative, quantitative, and qualitative analysis;
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum, BSc. degree of animal or biological sciences, or related fields;
  • At least three years' of experience with animal husbandry or related animal care experience;
  • AALAS certification or equivalent is required or must be obtained within 12 months of eligibility.
