Qatar University Laboratory Animal Research Center:
The Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC) of Qatar University is the first state-of-art animal facility at Qatar. LARC is committed to provide quality animal husbandry and veterinary care to support the leading role of the University in education, and research. LARC is devoted to advise, educate and train researchers, staff and students on animal experimentation matters and to promote and assure humane care and use of animals through compliance with International and University policies for the humane care and use of animals. LARC provides support and services to the biomedical research activities including rodents and transgenic animal models.
Position Summary:
The Laboratory Animal Research Center has an opening position for a small animal veterinary. The qualified applicant must have a minimum of three years' experience in similar job and a master degree DVM or VMD degree from an AVMA accredited College of Veterinary Medicine and active veterinary license to practice veterinary medicine.

Duties and responsibilities:
Small animal veterinary is responsible to perform the basic tasks of examining animals to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries. In turn treating sick or injured animals. This includes preparation, and use of a program for medical and surgical care, and health surveillance and maintaining the care to ensure regulatory compliance with accrediting agency AAALAC, International. The duties include:
  • Provides daily veterinary medical diagnostic, surgical (as needed), and treatment services within the animal unit, including oversight of quarantine procedures;
  • Provides education and training to personnel including preparatory classes for animal technician certification exams concerning proper handling, care, use and welfare and evaluate results of training;
  • Revises and develops required security practices for different species and research protocols;
  • Serves on IACUC Committee;
  • Direct management of student and researchers;
  • Provides daily veterinary medical and surgical support and develop procedures in compliance with all regulations and accrediting agency (AAALAC) standards;
  • Develop and implement preventative medical and health monitoring programs;
  • Support departmental biosecurity, safety, maintenance/renovation, occupational health and quality assurance programs as applicable to veterinary care activities;
  • Handle surgery related issues, including assisting with surgical training as needed;
  • Assist the Attending Veterinarian and IACUC in assuring in vivo research is in compliance with all federal and state laws, AAALAC standards and company guidelines;
  • Supervise and monitor research projects and ensure its compliance with international standards(AAALAC);
  • Manage and control drugs used in vivo research;
  • Implement, maintain, update and distribute regulatory compliance documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP);
  • Independent liaison with other departmental managers as needed (Operations, Production, etc.) in order to integrate and develop necessary programs and efficiencies.
