Associate Professor / Professor in Chemical Engineering (Hydrates) Qatar University

Unit: Gas Processing Centre
College: College of Engineering
College/Department Profile: The Gas Processing Centre is a multidisciplinary research unit residing in the College of Engineering at the University of Qatar and focused on applied research into gas processing and its environmental impact. The Centre is devoted to research and development in areas pertinent to the consortium of National and multi-National companies that support it. The long term objective is to achieve sustainable development of Qatar's vast natural gas and hydrocarbon resources. The Centre works closely with both industries and government agencies with the aim of providing answers and solutions to the gas processing sector. The research program involves teams of researchers from different Qatar University Departments as well as a team of dedicated professional staff who supervise the applied research projects.
Position Summary The Gas Processing Centre is expanding its research program to examine the issue of natural gas hydrates. This is a problem of prime concern to Qatar as the gas fields are offshore. Hydrates pose a great risk of blocking pipelines when raw natural gas is transported from the offshore sites and is exposed to low temperatures and high pressures. The aim of the research program is to develop the necessary infrastructure and execute a research plan to gain a thorough understanding of hydrate formation and develop methods to alleviate the problem specific to Qatari natural gas.
Successful candidates would have a firm background in Chemical Engineering, the relevant experience to undertake the research program, the necessary skills to deliver on the objectives and the ability to deliver technical written and verbal reports.
