Mechanical Engineering Faculty Positions


The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (CME) within the School of Computing and Engineering (SCE) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) is seeking applicants for up to two faculty positions in Mechanical Engineering at the assistant, associate, or full professor level.  The successful candidate(s) must have a strong commitment to student engagement, quality undergraduate and graduate education, research, and service to the university/profession.  Candidates will be expected to develop a strong externally-funded research program. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in mechanical design and robotics, thermal-fluid systems, and/or energy.  Applicants at the assistant professor level must demonstrate high potential for success in their area of expertise. Applicants at the associate or full professor level must demonstrate success and growth potential in their areas of expertise and provide evidence of their commitment to high-quality undergraduate and graduate education.
The CME department (http://sce.umkc.edu/cme/) offers BS (ABET-accredited) and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and participates in UMKC’s interdisciplinary PhD program. UMKC-SCE has the only ABET-accredited engineering school in Kansas City metropolitan area. The CME department has experienced tremendous growth in the last five years and is looking for ambitious faculty to build and enhance the department.  Numerous opportunities exist for developing or expanding funded research programs. These include governmental research funded by NSF, NIH, DOE, and other agencies.  UMKC is a participant in the NSF EPSCoR program which enhances the University’s opportunities to obtain funding for cutting-edge academic research. The combined metro area has over 2 million people and is world-class engineering hub that is home to companies such as Black and Veatch, Cerner, Burns & McDonnell, Hallmark, Sprint-Nextel, Honeywell and Garmin.  Industrial research and collaboration with industry and the other schools of UMKC is strongly encouraged. 
Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely-related discipline.  Ability to receive engineering licensure is preferred.
