Our client, The University of the South Pacific, is one of two regional universities in the world and is the leading tertiary education provider and research facility in the South Pacific. With over 22,000 students in 14 campuses around the Pacific region, our client is an international university funded by a number of donor governments, international aid agencies and the governments of 12 Pacific Island Countries: Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
The School of Computing, Information and Mathematical Sciences is one of the largest schools in the University of the South Pacific, and is sufficiently resourced to pursue excellence in teaching and research. The School offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Computing Science, Information Systems, Mathematics and Mathematics with Statistics Emphasis.
The School is also offering two new Professional Programmes in Computing Science, Bachelor of Net Centric Computing and Bachelor of Software Engineering. These are four-year programmes, which are in the process of being accredited by the Australian Computer Society.
Maxumise is assisting The University of the South Pacific in recruiting a Professor of Computing Science and Information Systems.
The Opportunity – Professor of Computing Science/Information Systems  
The USP is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join the team at the School of Computing, Information and Mathematical Sciences.  and be responsible for a wide range of duties focusing on teaching and conducting research on the focal areas; Software Engineering, Net Centric Computing, Database Management Systems, and Project Management. These areas form the core of their curriculum providing a broad knowledge of computing science and information systems, and an understanding of information technology.
The successful candidate will be expected to assume a supporting and leading role in the further strengthening of the core offerings and development of the curriculum, teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses both on campus and through the flexible mode, contribute to the School`s research and publications profile, and contribute to administrative tasks in the School and Faculty.
The Person we seek should have:
• A PhD or equivalent qualification in computing science/information systems, preferably with an undergraduate degree in the area
• Substantial teaching experience at the university level
• Proven experience in curriculum development
• The ability and willingness to teach at all levels (undergraduate and postgraduate) and a range of standard topics in the respective streams
• Significant experience in postgraduate supervision
• Demonstrated ability and competence in research
• Proven ability to form and lead a research team
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, and
• Excellent English written and oral communication skills
Preference will be given to applicants experienced with distance and flexible learning and demonstrated excellence in teaching in a multicultural environment.
Remuneration
This is a broad-banded full-time renewable appointment for 3 years. The remuneration package will be in the USP salary range as follows:
Professor :                   F$115 248 to F$124 592 per annum (Inclusive of 15% Gratuity).
In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of base salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides airfare and relocation costs where appropriate.
