Purpose of the post
The purpose of the Organisational Development unit (LnD/OD) of the Learning and Development Division is to support the individual staff member in their professional development and to support teams, managers and Human Resources staff in learning and development issues at Headquarter and Field level.
In his-her role of professional development practitioner, s-he will contribute to drive learning and development (LnD) programmes in order to enhance knowledge, skills, and performance of the individual in alignment with the required skill needs of the Organization. In a perspective of continuous learning environment, this position aims at analyzing, assessing, developing, designing, organizing, implementing, conducting and ultimately evaluating LnD programs.
S-he will support managers in their role of developing their staff competences. S-he will also provide professional development opportunities (training, coaching, mentoring etc) for employees undertaking a new role within the Organization.
In the context of the HR skills development project, the professional development practitioner will provide support in developing, implementing and evaluating the LnD programmes and related development activities. S-he will work closely with the project leaders of the three main work streams as well as the Change Management Adviser to make sure that the LnD programmes and activities fully and timely meets the People Management Programme requirements in terms of HR skills.
The professional development practitioner will be responsible for the implementation of a Continuing professional development (CPD) for HR practitioners.
Fully part of a team of 4, this position reports directly to the Head of OD unit.
Main responsibilities
- Supports managers in addressing staff development issues by providing Professional Development initiatives. Applies knowledge in individual, team and organizational assessment to designing, developing, implementing and evaluating learning and development programs
- Creates, facilitates and delivers tailored LnD programs which takes into consideration related organizational issues
- Works with all levels of management to determine core competencies required for positions in the organization and to identify specific resources to ensure acquisition, improvement and maintenance of those competencies by developing processes reinforcing positive results and sustainability of improvements
- Identifies and implements on-the-job and other learning and developmental activities required for the acquisition of core competencies and the maintenance of required knowledge and skills
- Elaborates and conducts coaching and mentoring programmes as an answer to onboarding issues
- Runs and facilitates seminars, workshops and self-paced trainings
- Identifies, provides and works with a pool of external suppliers
- Related to HR skill development project, the incumbent is specifically expected to support and advise the HR skill development project leader in assessing, designing, planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the learning and development programmes
Required Training and Experience:
- Master Degree, or equivalent in Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development or related field or equivalent
- Minimum three years employment in the fields of human resources, training, education, or development
- Proven track record in developing, implementing and evaluating learning and development programmes in a large organization
- Relevant experience in implementing coaching and mentoring programmes
- Certified coach, an advantage
- Sound experience in HR projects
- ICRC experience, an advantage
Profile and skills required:
- Ability to perform and interpret needs analysis, and to translate the findings into actionable next steps in the field of Lnd and/or Organizational Development
- Strong planning and project management skills and ability to apply these skills in effective working partnerships across organizational lines
- Excellent oral/written communication skills, including group facilitation and presentation skills
- Analytical skills: ability to make quantitative and qualitative assessment on training, education and development needs
- Ability to work equally effectively in team-based environments as well as on tasks, which require high levels of initiative, autonomy and independent thought and action
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including leadership, influencing, and relationship-building across functions
- Demonstrate a strong customer orientation
- Excellent English, good French; other languages (eg Arabic, Spanish an advantage).
