The Climate Business Department (CBG) was created in 2010 as a new department and collaborative platform to coordinate, catalyze and optimize all climate business activities within IFC on the investment and advisory side. CBG works closely with other industry investment groups within IFC, including Infrastructure and Natural Resources; Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS); and Financial Markets, as well as all Advisory Services business lines and appropriate counterparts within the World Bank, located both at HQ and in the regions. CBG is unique for its global perspective on climate, technologies and development, its long-term approach to investments, and its ability to leverage the resources of the entire World Bank Group, as well as its commitment to maximizing value of portfolio companies through sustained assistance.

The Strategy and Business Development Division of CBG (CBGSB) develops and monitors implementation of IFC’s strategy on Climate Change and supports these strategies across relevant regional, global and advisory departments with technical expertise. CBGSB is seeking to recruit a Senior Strategist who will work closely with the Head of Strategy and Business Development, the Director of CBG, the CBG Leadership team, and key stakeholders of IFC’s extended Climate Business team to support the development and implementation of IFC’s Climate Change Strategy. The candidate will work across CBG units and IFC departments on Climate Change Strategy development and coordination, and other related cross-departmental climate initiatives.
Duties and Accountabilities:
• Lead the CBG strategy development and support its presentation to Senior Mgmt in coordination with CBG management, and key stakeholders across IFC;

• Support the CBGSB Head, the CBG Director and the management team in monitoring strategy implementation; 

• Facilitate the function of the CBG Leadership where major issues of strategic priority are being discussed and decisions are made for the department;

• Work closely with communications staff to ensure effective awareness raising among relevant IFC staff of climate strategies and business opportunities;

• Present departmental strategy as needed in CBG and IFC initiatives.

• Daily support to the CBGSB Head and CBG Director on operational departmental issues and representation commitments internally and externally;

• Support the CBG Management team with departmental representation to Senior Mgmt and Board as needed, including involvement in work with IEG, CAO, COS, and other relevant units across IFC;

• Promote fluent and effective communication between the CBG Leadership teams and counterpart teams across IFC;

• Responsible for the update and maintenance of the CBG scorecard 

• Represent CBG in the IFC Strategists Network, communicate back to CBG departmental and corporate strategy developments and coordinate CBG contribution as needed;

• Organize strategic initiatives for CBG as needed;

• Systematically interact with other relevant staff in IFC’s Sustainability Knowledge Network and other IFC Industry, Region, BLs, and Service Departments to represent IFC’s Sustainability strategy and address relevant issues;

• Contribute to the development of IFC Sustainability Knowledge Network events and other initiatives that support the management of the Network and its practice groups’ activities.
Selection Criteria:
• Masters degree in finance, business and/or economics or equivalent , with a strong grasp of core economic and financial concepts and understanding of development issues and impact; 

• At least eight years of experience working for the WBG and/or another development institution, including experience with climate change issues; 

• Demonstrated ability to strategic thinking: ability to interpret external events and their impact, ability to “connect the dots”; 

• Excellent written and oral communications skills;

• Experience on interactions/engagement with Senior management and/or WBG senior staff; 

• Hands-on experience in the strategy function, e.g. working on industry /regional/ corporate strategies; 

• Track record in delivering products on time and with highest quality; 

• Versatility at work, with ability to respond quickly to evolving situations without losing sense of priority; 

• Flexibility, responsiveness, and ability to manage multiple activities to tight deadlines, and with demonstrated ability to lead and work in multidisciplinary teams; 

• Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to resolve differences of opinion or conflicts constructively; 

• Open and collegial work style, with ability to listen and integrate inputs from others, and foster cooperation among colleagues and relevant professionals from other Departments and disciplines; 

• Ability to work with teams in a decentralized structure.
