The U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg is seeking an individual for the position of Residential Security Technician in the Regional Security Office (RSO).

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications Required:
NOTE:  ALL APPLICANTS MUST ADDRESS EACH SELECTION CRITERION DETAILED BELOW WITH SPECIFIC AND COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION SUPPORTING EACH ITEM.

Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED

1.      Education:  Completion of secondary school (Grade 12) and one year college diploma in electronics is required.   2.      Experience:  Minimum of two years experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of all electronic security products in residential properties is
      required.
3.      Language:  -          Level IV English - fluent in reading/writing/speaking is required.4.      Knowledge:  -          Knowledge of Digital Security Control (DSC) and Napco Gemini Security products, video intercoms and the Oryx control room software is required.-           Basic knowledge of repair, maintenance and installation of electronic security systems, e.g. intercoms, grills, locks, alarm contacts and CCTV, situated
      at residential properties is required.
5.      Skills and Abilities:  -          Ability to make quick but accurate decisions regarding security products at residences is required.-          Ability to assist the RSO to create new ideas is required.-          Ability to crawl in small physical spaces of residence is required.-          Assistance on a 24 hour basis to mission employees is required.-          Must possess valid South African driver’s license (Code EB).

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position:
The incumbent repairs, maintains and services all electronic security systems.  Will conduct security surveys, maintain database of all residential security equipment, and serve as main point of contact with the housing section.  Inspect all door contacts, passive infra-reds, glass break sensors, panic buttons and intercom systems.  The incumbent works with the General Services Office (GSO) and landlords regarding maintenance work (carpentry, welding, electrical). Liaise with American employees for residential security issues/training.  Install alarm components, troubleshoot alarm problems and make emergency repairs to alarm systems.  Evaluate need for emergency technical services by alarm installing companies.
