CIDSE, created in 1967, is an international alliance of 17 Catholic development agencies. CIDSE members share a common strategy on advocacy work and development cooperation. The network’s main goal is to promote human development and global justice. 

The CIDSE Secretariat, located in Brussels, is currently looking for a fulltime Communication Officer to join its team as soon as possible.

The CIDSE Communication Officer will

  • Support the network’s political work and visibility through publications, events, media coverage and online presence;
  • Facilitate communication and information flows within the network.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • External communication and media relations (75%):
    • Develop, maintain and monitor CIDSE communication tools (CIDSE website, annual report, newsletter, press materials, social media channels etc.) with a clear focus on what is politically and strategically relevant;
    • Coordinate the layout and publication of reports, briefings and newsletters, as well as online materials (website and social media);
    • Support CIDSE’s political work, developing communication and media strategies in cooperation with advocacy staff and working groups on specific advocacy themes, as well as in the context of broader network-wide actions;
    • Develop strategic media relations: identify and foster press contacts, draft press releases;
    • Handle media inquiries and support CIDSE staff and representatives in their communication with media.
  • Internal Communication (within the network) and IT management (25%):
    • Evaluate current tools and strategies and decide on next steps i.a. on a new contact management system, developing an internal communication function, using adequate 2.0 technologies;
    • Cooperate with the communication units of CIDSE member organisations;
    • Coordinate the interventions of CIDSE’s Help Desk, making sure they are in line with internal communication needs.

Your profile:

  • You have a track record developing and implementing communications strategies against measurable targets (preferably for advocacy campaigns) and you have worked at least 2 years in a function similar to the vacant position;
  • You are able to clearly identify the network’s internal and external communication needs, opportunities and priorities;
  • You are capable of working on a political level with text, images, sound and video on various platforms;
  • You use website and social media in an intelligent and politically effective way;
  • You are able to create considerable output with limited means as regards time and support;
  • You produce and edit written communications in a clear and concise style and you are able to tailor language, tone, style and format to match audience.

Furthermore...

  • Your written and spoken English is excellent. French and other languages are an asset;
  • You are a team worker and you are able to work in a network and multi-cultural NGO environment;
  • You are a good multi-tasker with result-oriented organisational, planning and communication skills;
  • Innovation, sound analysis and strategy making are part of your skill set;
  • You can demonstrate a strong interest in, and understanding of, development policies and the NGO community. You know what the relevant political decision-making processes and policies are;
  • You know and are committed to the mission and values of CIDSE as alliance of Catholic development organisation;
  • Web 2.0. has no secrets for you (proven proficiency in web editing, graphic and publishing software is an asset);
  • You are willing to travel, mainly within Europe, occasionally to other continents.
