One full-time Tenure Track position (lecturer) with a focus on scientific research funded by the Special Research Fund (BOF) in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
One full-time position, with a starting rank of lecturer, in the University of Ghent’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, will be available via the Tenure Track system with effect from October 1, 2013.
The position will be granted in the following field of study:
  • Comparative Fysiology
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the field of comparative physiology. The candidate will strengthen and further expand the research in the actual field of physiology to different species, more especially by exploring functional questions and integrating knowledge of other disciplines into the complexity of mechanisms that allow organisms to adapt and to survive. Experience with molecular and biochemical techniques (from genomics to peptidomics) will be appreciated. The candidate must have experience with animal models and experimental research in physiology and pathophysiology.
This is in the first instance a five-year temporary appointment in a Tenure Track system focussing primarily on research, with a teaching load limited to no more than 60 teaching hours per semester.
If the university board positively evaluates the performance of the person involved, the position may lead to a permanent position as senior lecturer, at which point the teaching load may be revised.

Profile - candidates are expected to:

  • Hold a PhD degree with doctoral thesis or a degree recognized as equivalent;
  • candidates are required to have at least two years of postdoctoral experience on October 1st, 2013;
  • Hold a degree of Master of Veterinary Medicine in Veterinary Medicine or a degree recognized as equivalent;
  • Have carried out excellent research in the academic field mentioned above, proven by, among other things, recent outstanding publications in national and international peer reviewed journals and/or books;
  • Have experience in supervising research and/or coaching Ph.D. students;
  • Possess the necessary didactic, organisational and communication skills for teaching at third level;
  • International research experience will be an advantage, in particular scientific work in research institutions abroad.
No prior knowledge of Dutch is necessary at the time of appointment, but candidates will be expected to acquire a working knowledge of the language within three years. The official language at Ghent University is Dutch.

-using the specific BOF Tenure Track application forms, together with an explanation of the main research assignment of the scientific research proposed by the candidate during the Tenure Track position. This “research plan” should comprise at least three and no more than five pages in English, together with an English summary on one page. Proofs of competency (e.g., copies of the applicant’s diplomas) should also be sent at this stage.
