BBC Indonesia is part of the BBC World Service, an international multimedia news organisation which provides news and current affairs output to a global audience. We are changing rapidly and moving to a multi-platform and multi-lingual operation with an emphasis on mobile and online activities.  As a Multimedia Broadcast Journalist working in this exciting and demanding live environment, you’ll be working across all platforms producing news and current affairs content in Bahasa Indonesia that is accurate, impartial and of high quality.

Role

On a daily basis, you’ll be writing and researching stories and other programme material in Bahasa Indonesia. As much of our source material will be in English, you’ll also be translating, adapting and editing material into Bahasa Indonesia. To ensure our stories stay current, you’ll have responsibility for moving stories on, amending and updating material as required, thinking through and around editorial problems and developing realistic alternative strategies and approaches.

Requirements

Your University degree qualification, in addition to your significant recent, relevant journalistic experience in a news environment, will be key to your success in this role as will your ability to work creatively and flexibly. With a genuine passion for explaining the world to our audiences, you’ll have an in depth current knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia and international current affairs. You’ll have Bahasa Indonesia as your first (or equivalent) language and be fluent in English. Coupled with this, your experience of translating news from English into Bahasa Indonesia is required. We need your understanding of the growing importance of social media and the benefits and challenges it brings.
