WWF is currently looking for its new CEO, WWF China who will provide strong leadership to WWF’s operation in China and play a leadership role within the WWF Network, with the objectives to shape the sustainability agenda of China domestically and globally to deliver WWF’s global priorities; and to play a leadership role within the WWF Network. As of 2012, WWF has more than 160 staff working in 8 offices in China on a broad range of conservation programmes including species, freshwater, forest, marine, climate change and energy, the green economy and footprint

This role represents an extremely exciting opportunity for a proven leader with strong track record of leading a nationwide multi-site operation, and with capability of growing an organization’s impact and building future leadership and talent in the organization. The ideal candidate will have significant public profile particularly regarding conservation, environment and business as well as experience of working with and influencing governmental officials, business leaders and other key stakeholders in China. The ideal candidate will also be strong manager, able to work seamlessly across the 8 offices of WWF China.

Main responsibilities:

  • Leads the vision, strategic planning, and future institutional development of WWF China;
  • Establishes WWF China as the leading conservation INGO in China and enables the office to play a leading role in the WWF Network;
  • Ensures WWF China is effectively and efficiently managed in all key areas – conservation, operations, finance, HR, communication, marketing and fundraising –providing the basis for the China for a Global Shift Global Initiative and other Network priority programmes to be most effective in achieving their objectives;
  • Provides effective leadership and line management for all members of the senior management team;
  • Provides thought leadership on all key issues at the highest organisational level and manages key partnerships in and outside China to ensure optimal communication and mutually beneficial relationships;
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with key partners across the WWF network and with external partners inside and outside China.


What you need:

Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
  • At least 10 years professional experience in a leadership role with demonstrated success in leading national or multi-national multi-site organizations;
  • Proven knowledge and experience of the not-for-profit sector, preferably of environmental non- government organizations;
  • Significant public profile particularly regarding conservation, environment and business issues;
  • Experience working with and influencing government officials/departments and other key stakeholders in China;
  • Superior oral and written communication skills in Mandarin and English.
  • A proven leader with the capability of growing an organization’s impact and building future leadership and talent in the organization
  • High level negotiation, collaborating and influencing skills and the capacity to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels in the business, not-for-profit, scientific and political communities;
  • Have networks at the highest levels of Government and Business;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to represent an organization at a range of local and international fora, in the media and with the general public;
  • Very strategic and demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating strategic plans;
  • Track record of building organizational talent by nurturing performance culture and encouraging empowerment and delegation;
